Is English sparkling wine fast becoming as good as Champagne? Can you even tell the difference? Many professional tasters certainly cannot ...

We'll be posing both these questions and looking to you for answers at a tutored tasting of English wines at the Bristol Hotel in Warsaw on Saturday, July 1. It is the final event in an English-themed series that has been taking place at the Bristol and will be in the Marconi Room.

Our tutor will be Tomasz Kolecki, President of the Polish Sommelier's Association and a three-time winner of the Polish Sommelier of the Year award.

He'll blind pour two English sparkling wines from Simpson's Estate in Kent and Champagne from Taittinger and seek your verdict.

Incidentally, one of the Simpson bubblies he'll be pouring  is being served in business class on all British Airways short and long-haul flights this summer. Taittinger has bought land near the Simpson's vineyards in the UK and is building a winery there.

After your verdicts on this, you'll be offered to taste single varietal English Pinot Noir, Petite Meurnier and Chardonnay, the three grapes used in the making of Champagne.

Gourmet English-style canapés will generously served throughout.

Hopefully I will also be presenting my photographic highlights from the Coronation of King Charles III  and the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2023 both of which I attended.

Price per person is 350 zl

Should be an excellent and fun social occasion !
